On January 20, 1983, Rukiya Bernard, a Canadian actor, producer, and interior designer, was born in Toronto, Ontario. She pursued ballet, karate, piano, basketball, and track because her parents, Nyakiringa Magugu and Gilbert Bernard, encouraged her to participate in both athletics and the arts from a young age.
Rukiya began her acting career with a supporting role in Ernest Dickerson’s movie Our America after graduating with honors from Ryerson University’s theatre school.
