Ruhollah Zam was an Iranian activist and journalist who was residing in France. Ruhollah was operating a news website named “AmadNews”. He also was popular among Iranian youth on the app Telegram. Ruhollah’s father Mohammad Ali Zam was a reformist Shiite cleric. In short, he used to serve the Iranian government in the 1980s and 1990s. His news website was founded in 2015 and, in no time, it became popular among young Iranians.
How did he end up being jailed in Iran? Well, his news website and Telegram Channel played a vital role in the “2017-2018 Iranian Protests”. The protest came as the biggest challenge the Iranian Government has ever faced. Hence, in 2019, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards(IRG) announced on his Telegram channel that Zam was arrested by them and no updates were given after that.
