Ruben Studdard family consists of his father Kevin Sr, mother Emily and brother Kevin Jr.

Though an American citizen, Studdard was born in Frankfurt, West Germany on September 12, 1978, as his father was stationed there during his time in the U.S. Army.

Studdard and the rest of his family would eventually move to Birmingham, Alabama, where the boy and his brother would be raised.

Studdard was already showing his talents from a young age, as his first performance took place at the tender age of three.

His Parents Emily Studdard And Kevin Studdard

Ruben Studdard parents Emily and Kevin Sr. Studdard are both American citizens. Though he was born in Germany, his parents have strong ties to Birmingham, Alabama.

As stated above, his father had to be posted in Frankfurt, West Germany due to his position in the US Army. Studdard’s mother followed her husband and gave birth to him there.

After the family returned to America, Emily started working as an elementary teacher, while Kevin Sr. started working as a secondary school teacher as well as an entrepreneur. Of the two parents, Studdard’s mother was very encouraging of his young talents and would often make him participate in school plays, choir competitions, and musicals.

In fact, she is the reason why Studdard had his first performance at the age of three at the Rising Star Baptist Church in Birmingham, his hometown. Studdard would continue singing gospel while his mother also sang in the choir.

Brother Kevin Studdard

Ruben brother Kevin Studdard sadly passed away on May 29, 2018. Ruben announced the loss on his Instagram page.

Born on May 20, 1974, as Kevin Dedric Olivier Studdard II, Ruben’s late brother was four years older than him. Like Ruben, Kevin also went to Huffman High School and later attended Clark Atlanta University.

According to his obituary, Kevin is survived by his wife Ayla Russell, and two sons named Erik Nasir Studdard and Eric Washington Jr. Ruben’s late brother had his funeral at the 6th Avenue Baptist Church on June 2, 2018, and is currently interned at Elmwood Cemetery.

Anyone who knew Studdard since his American Idol days knew how much Kevin meant to him. The singer would often talk about how much his brother had been there for him, usually being the only person who would talk to him about topics that Studdard didn’t want to hear, his advice being undeniable.

Ruben Studdard ex-wife Surata Zuri McCants was married to him from 2008 to 2012. Surata is based in Atlanta and works as a flight attendant.

According to an article by Popsugar, Studdard first saw Surata while signing CDs for his admirers at an Atlanta Walmart in 2006. The singer followed his soon-to-be wife to the toy department and asked for her phone number during their first conversation. 

The two would wed in 2008, but sadly, their marriage was not to be successful as less than three years into their wedding, Studdard filed for divorce in November 2011, citing irreconcilable differences. Their divorce would be a media affair due to the fact that Studdard was intent on leaving his ex-wife with nothing.

Though they both had signed a prenuptial agreement, Surata claimed that she had been blindsided into the decision days before the actual wedding. Sadly, her attempts at fighting to nullify the agreement would be for naught, but she managed to receive ten thousand dollars in a property settlement and a 2006 BMW among other small amenities.

Ruben Studdard new wife Kristin Moore-Studdard is a realtor based in Mobile, Alabama. The two have been together since 2018.

Unlike his marriage to his first spouse, Suarata, Ruben has been very careful not to impart any knowledge about his and his current partner’s relationship to the public, especially their beginnings. However, much can be gleaned from Kristin’s Instagram page where she has over 7.6K followers.

Per her page, the first time she featured a post with Ruben was back on January 3, 2018, when they were at Red Pine Gondola. The next significant picture on the platform was when the realtor shared a picture on September 1, 2019, with a wedding ring showing brightly on her finger. 

Kristin has been much more open about posting about her husband and their family from December 26, 2020, onwards as that was when they first publicized their child, a son. Since then, Kristin has frequently let the public into their lives.

Khobi Studdard

Ruben Studdard daughter Khobi Studdard has conflicting reports on her parentage. In fact, it is hard to tell if she is Ruben’s daughter.

The biggest indication that Khobi is related to Ruben is the fact that many publications back in the late 2000s and early 2010s noted that she was his daughter. Getty noticeably called Khobi Ruben’s daughter when she appeared alongside him and his then-partner Surata at the Season 8 Finale of American Idol.

However, Hollywood Life would then note, under the caption for a picture from the same event, that Khobi is actually Surata’s daughter. Given that the young girl has since disappeared from public life and cannot be found in either Ruben or Surata’s social media, it’s hard to figure out whose daughter she is, if either’s.

Ruben Studdard Son Name Is Olivier

Ruben Studdard son Olivier Studdard is two years old. Little Olivier was born on June 10, 2020.

Unlike with Khobi, Ruben has made no attempt to hide or talk little about his son with his current partner. In fact, both parents often post pictures of or with their son. 

According to an article by People magazine, the singer named his son after his late brother’s middle name so that he could still have a connection to the man. The middle name, Olivier, is also the middle name of Ruben’s father.

So, by naming his son that, Ruben has managed to honor both his late brother and his father, and made sure that the young boy always has some form of connection to his late uncle, despite never being able to meet him.
