Royden Wood, a pastor at a church and a teacher at the school, has entered a not guilty plea to 10 charges of assault, two of sexual assault, and one charge of sexual interference.
The alternative school, which operated from around 1985 to 1987 out of the basement of the Ambassador Baptist Church, was the subject of a man who is now 35 years old’s testimony on Tuesday regarding the alleged abuse he endured as a youngster there.
In his opening statements, Crown counsel Peter Kierluk claimed that three boys had been subjected to significant physical abuse, including beatings with fists and pliers, forced laps around the churchyard (50–60), and standing at attention throughout the school day.
