Ten assault charges, two sexual assault counts, and one charge of sexual interference have been brought against Royden Wood, a church pastor and teacher at the institution. Wood has entered a not guilty plea.
A man, now 35 years old, gave testimony on Tuesday on alleged abuse he allegedly experienced as a youngster attending the alternative school that operated out of the Ambassador Baptist Church’s basement from roughly 1985 to 1987.
Crown counsel Peter Kierluk said in his opening statement that three boys had been subjected to significant physical abuse, including fist and pliers attacks, forced running of 50 to 60 laps around the church property, and standing at attention throughout the school day.
