School of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environmental Studies

Agribusiness constitutes the knowledge and principles of agriculture, science, economics and business for the production, processing and marketing of agricultural commodities. It exists on the foundation of the entire agricultural value chain extending from farm inputs, through on-farm businesses, to processing, transportation, credit and marketing. Within the agriculture industry, “agribusiness” is used simply as a blend of agriculture and business, referring to the range of activities and disciplines encompassed by modern food production. The Bachelor of Science Agribusiness Management offers a combination of Agricultural, business and Social Sciences required for the management of agribusiness and related institutions. The program offers better prospects for employment in the smaller and upcoming agro-industries that may not have the resources to employ specialists in Human Resource Management, Accounting, Production and Marketing. This program, among other objectives, aims to create a paradigm shift from government-driven production programme to market-centered business; from agricultural graduates looking for employment after college to agri-business innovators and job creators; from basic research to applied research among other transformations in the agriculture industry.

School of Graduate Studies

The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) was established in the year 2015 to respond to the surging need for graduate education among neighboring communities who had hitherto grappled with the challenges of access to that crucial level of our Kenyan higher education system. Since then, the School has been on a steady growth path and has proved very helpful to not only the surrounding student community, but also the national student population. Through working with the six teaching schools in the University, the School of Graduate Studies has been greatly relied upon to provide scholarly leadership in the University.

The School is responsible for the administration of graduate studies in the University through fulfilment of six major mandates namely:

  • Admission of graduate students
  • Co-ordination and regulation of graduate syllabi
  • Administration of graduate scholarships and research grants
  • Ensuring effective supervision of graduate students
  • Administration and processing of graduate research theses.
  • Verifying the final list of graduate degree awards.

In the performance of her mandates, the School is guided by the Rongo University Rules and Regulations Governing Graduate Studies. The School has managed to develop rules and regulations that provides a very comprehensive and vibrant systematic approach to the management and administration of graduate studies in the University.

A spacious room has also been exclusively set aside by the University for graduate students who may wish to read and conduct research while at the University. School of Education

The School of Education at Rongo University is a diverse, scholarly community dedicated to serving education through teaching, scholarship, and outreach.

We prepare professionals to lead in education, to practice social responsibility, and to exemplify intellectual curiosity.

We conduct scholarship that advances knowledge and refines practice.
From its founding, the Rongo University School of Education has been committed to both the preparation of educators and the advancement of research and scholarship. We offer programs leading to initial licensure as a teacher, counselor, or administrator, as well as programs of advanced studies for practitioners and scholars. This dual commitment is also reflected in our faculty, who combine practical classroom expertise and scholarly attainments. The scholarly work deepens and enriches the preparation of educators; and the preparation of educators tethers scholarship to the realities of practice.
The School of Education is dedicated to preparing outstanding professional educators, producing research that improves the practice of education, and providing excellent professional support to our partners in the field. As a school, we provide comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs. One of our strengths is that we are a small school of approximately 1,000 students – we work hard to sustain a strong sense of community. Students and faculty get to know one another, and actively engage in discussion regarding the improvement of the education world from nursery through higher education. Our community members have access to all the resources of a major research university, including: faculty who are leaders in their field of study, libraries, lectures and an abundance of courses in a wide range of disciplines and professional fields.

School of Science, Technology and Engineering

Innovative application of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) largely remains untapped in Kenya, yet it has a huge potential for scientific discovery and production of commercializable products and services needed to contribute new solutions to difficult problems afflicting society in many sectors and should inevitably be mainstreamed in the scientific research agenda of this 21st Century. At the School of Science, Technology and Engineering (SSTE), we teach students STEM thereby effectively preparing them to be innovative and disruptive scientific thinkers; this being fundamental in enhancing scientific research, discovery, job creation, manufacturing and improved service delivery in the true spirit of the Kenya Vision 2030. In this long-term development policy, Kenya aims to transform into a newly industrializing, middle-income Country, providing a high quality of life to all its citizens by the year 2030 in a clean and secure environment. In particular, the central role of STEM in realization of this vision cannot be overstated, the scarce and much needed scientific research funds notwithstanding. Against the foregoing background, the SSTE is positioning to closely work with the National Government and the County Governments of Migori, Homabay, Kisumu, Siaya, Kisii, Kericho, Kakamega and Busia and international partners, among others to unleash the potential of STEM in solving the pressing and perennial problems in the region with a view to improving healthcare and enhancing agricultural production. As we welcome other strategic partners, we are particularly indebted to the Chinese Government through the Wuhan Textile University, China for providing enormous support for one of our main programmes. Furthermore, our Professors and Lecturers at the SSTE have identified public health and environmental challenges as key areas meriting intense scientific research with a view to providing local solutions to related problems that are unique to this region and beyond. At our School, we continue to engage our students in structured mentorship programmes in STEM as we aspire to make our School and Rongo University a world class place for game-changing and paradigm-shifting scholarly engagement. Our School, which is growing, currently has two departments that offer several courses in the Departments of Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences. The Department of Physical Sciences offers Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics with Computing; Bachelor of Science in Computer Science; Bachelor of Science in Mathematics; Bachelor of Science in Chemistry; Bachelor of Science in Physics; Bachelor of Science in Fashion Design and Textile Technology and Diploma in Fashion Design and Textile Technology programmes. The Department of Biological Sciences, on the other hand, offers Bachelor of Science in Microbiology; Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry; Bachelor of Science in Botany and Bachelor of Science in Zoology programmes. As Dean I encourage you to explore the breadth and quality of the excellent academic programmes the School offers.
