Ronald Haslam (born June 22, 1956) is a former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer from the United Kingdom. He has been racing for more than thirty years, winning three World titles and four British championships, as well as competing in over 110 Grand Prix races. Originally from Milnhay Road in the mining town of Langley Mill, near Heanor, Derbyshire, Haslam began racing at the age of 15 on a Norton Commando 750cc owned by his older brothers Phil and Terry.
Haslam is the youngest of 10 brothers and sisters. He finished seventh and eighth in his two races at Cadwell Park, which took place on a wet and treacherous course. He only competed in a few of meets that year, and he only competed in a handful of meetings the following year. Following Phil’s death in a racing accident at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough, in July 1974, the youngster withdrew from the sport for the remainder of the season in order to mourn his loss.
Terry, another brother, was murdered while competing in a sidecar outfit at Assen, the Netherlands, in the year 1984. He continued to compete in his chosen sport despite the devastating blows he had suffered. His last appearance was on a Ducati 998 in the Race of The Year at Mallory Park in October 2004. Currently, Haslam is focusing his efforts on assisting his son, Leon Haslam, in his growing racing career and running the Ron Haslam Race School at Donington Park, where he trains riders and racers alike.
