Ron Claiborne – Bio, Net Worth, Wife and Career Achievements

The world of broadcast journalism can be a cutthroat. Anyone who manages to thrive in such an industry and build a successful career is automatically a star. One person who falls into this category is award-winning ABC journalist Ron Claiborne. Ivy-educated Claiborne began his career as a print journalist before joining ABC News in 1986. He then spent a total of 32 years at ABC. During this time he rose to become the co-anchor of Good Morning America Weekend. Claiborne endeared himself to many with his kind and consistent charisma.

Ron Claiborne’s bio

Ronald Eldridge Claiborne was born on August 20, 1953 in San Francisco, California. The journalist spent his formative years in Oakland, attending Onondaga Central Junior-Senior High School. He was an exceptional student and was admitted to the prestigious Yale University to study psychology.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Claiborne attended Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where he received his master’s degree in science. Ron Claiborne began his journalism career at an independent newspaper in Richmond, California. He then joined the United Press International Wire Service as a reporter in the late 1970s. In 1980, Claiborne moved to New York City, where he worked as a reporter for the New York Daily News.

After two years at the New York Daily News, the California native decided to make the switch to television journalism. He found work as a reporter for an independent television network called WNYW-TV in 1984. He only spent two years with them before the major networks called.

Ron Claiborne joined ABC News1986 General Assignment Reporter as a Boston native. He spent 32 years on the network, covering four presidential campaigns (including that of John McCain) and reporting from no fewer than 40 countries. He also covered current issues such as the legalization of same-sex marriage in Massachusetts and the scandal that ravaged the Boston Catholic Church in 2002.

In 2004, Ron Claiborne was promoted to the position of co-anchor of Good Morning America Weekend . He would stay in that position until his retirement in September 2018. The veteran journalist has since revealed that his retirement is set to be dedicated to volunteering in African countries like Tanzania and Uganda.

Career Achievements

Ron Claiborne received several awards and accolades throughout his career. He was nominated four times for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Live Reporting of a Breaking News (Long Form). He took the gong home in 2010 to cover ABC’s 2009 opening. The California native also received an individual Emmy Award for Outstanding Live Coverage of a Breaking News (Long Form) in 2002. This was for his coverage of the Elian Gonzales story. Elain Gonzales is a Cuban man who was involved in an international imprisonment and immigration controversy as a child. His mother had tried to bring him to the United States when he was six years old. However, she drowned and Gonzales was placed with paternal relatives in Miami. His father later requested his return to Cuba, while his paternal relatives opposed the request. The court later ruled that only his father could apply for asylum on his behalf and since he was clearly unwilling to do so, the boy should be returned to Cuba. Elian Gonzales was returned to his father in Cuba in June 2000.

Ron Claiborne Net Worth (Income and Earnings)

Ron Claiborne has an impressive net worth of $5million and that is evident from his career over the years. His total net worth comes as no surprise given his long and enviable career. A significant portion of his net worth is believed to derive from his tenure at ABC News.

If married, who is his wife?

Ron Claiborne has never been married and there has not yet been any public reports of a girlfriend. His relationship status may not be related to the type of journalism work that can be demanding at times.

In September 2011, the GMA team hosted an informal conversational interaction where viewers could ask the anchors a desired question. During the session, a caller asked Claiborne his zodiac sign and he revealed it was Leo. The caller then informed him that his soulmate is an Aquarius, and Claiborne joked that he was looking for Aquarius ladies.

Even though Ron Claiborne may not have a significant other, he still enjoys showering on his relatives. The veteran journalist never fails to appreciate his family on social media. On Mother’s Day 2015, he shared a picture of himself and his mother on Twitter, wishing her a happy Mother’s Day. Claiborne also shared a picture of himself and his late father Earl on Father’s Day 2015.
