Ron Blair Net Worth, Income, Salary, Earnings, Biography

Ronald Edward Blair (born September 16, 1948, in San Diego, California) is an American musician best known as the bassist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. He is best known for his work with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. He was the band’s bassist from 1976 until 1982, and he was the band’s original bassist. In 2002, he rejoined the group after a 20-year absence, taking over for the late Howie Epstein, who had been his own successor. Because his father was a Navy officer, the family moved every few years across the United States, as well as inside Japan and Hong Kong, to find work. Ron was a member of a well-known rock band in Japan when he was a youngster. Blair, on the other hand, felt most at ease in the music scenes of Macon, Georgia, and Gainesville, Florida, where he spent the most of his time. Blair was a member of the band RGF while living in Gainesville. His sister, Janice Blair, is a singer who was once married to Gregg Allman before his death. He and his wife were married in 1973 and divorced in 1975. Blair later relocated to Los Angeles, where he formed a band with fellow Gainesville artists Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, and Stan Lynch, all of whom were born in Gainesville. Campbell and Tench had previously been members of the famous Gainesville band Mudcrutch, which also included Tom Petty. Mudcrutch had moved from Gainesville to Los Angeles, but the band had disbanded a short time afterwards. Immediately after the split, Tench enlisted the help of Campbell, Blair, and Lynch to make demos in the hopes of landing a new record contract. After witnessing one of their recording sessions, Petty approached them and asked if they would be interested in taking over his existing recording deal with Shelter Records and forming a band. Denny Cordell, president of Shelter, saw Petty’s promise and retained him on the payroll while releasing the other members of Mudcrutch from their contracts). Blair remained with the band for the duration of its first four studio albums, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, You’re Gonna Get It!, Damn the Torpedoes, and Hard Promises, though he was frequently replaced by session bassists, including Donald “Duck” Dunn in the studio, during the recording of the albums. Later that year, on March 18, 2002, he re-joined the group to play at the band’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. As a result of their reunion, Blair was able to rejoin the group for its summer 2002 tour. He assisted in the completion of The Last DJ’s record and has been there for all of the following releases and performances. Beyond the Heartbreakers, Blair has worked on records with artists such as Barbara Morrison and Carlos Zialcita, among others. Additionally, he has contributed to records by Kirstin Candy, Stevie Nicks, Del Shannon, Slobberbone, and The Tremblers, among other artists. Aside from that, Blair was a founding member of The Dirty Knobs, which was formed as a side-project of Mike Campbell. Blair was described as follows by Tom Petty: “It’s wonderful to have him [again] as a member of the band. The mere presence of him brings back memories of my younger years…. We had a good time. We were familiar with one another. And he was always considered to be the finest bass player in the city.” The Orange County Register published an article on August 26, 2002, stating that Blair has been seen with a variety of basses (including a Rickenbacker 4001 and a Hofner Club bass, both of which are owned by Petty), but he is best known for playing the Fender Jazz Bass, which he has used in both his early and later years with the Heartbreakers (a black Jazz Bass in his early years with the band and a white Jazz Bass since returning to the band). In the early days of the Heartbreakers, his bass setup consisted of a Vox Super Beatle. When he re-enters the picture,
