Roman Kemp’s Father: Martin Kemp
Martin John Kemp, an English musician, and actor was born on October 10, 1961. He is best known for playing bass in the new wave band Spandau Ballet and for playing Steve Owen in the television series EastEnders.
He is Gary Kemp’s younger brother, who is also an actor and a member of Spandau Ballet. In the tenth season of Celebrity Big Brother in 2012, Kemp came in third place. In 2017, Kemp made an appearance as a judge on the BBC show Let It Shine.
At his parents’ home in Islington, north London, Frank and Eileen Kemp welcomed Kemp into the world. Kemp attended Rotherfield Junior School. With his brother Gary, he began attending the Anna Scher Theatre theater club when he was 7 years old.
He made appearances in various TV programs, such as Dixon of Dock Green, The Tomorrow People, and Jackanory. He landed a part in The Glittering Prizes in his final year with Anna Scher, sharing the screen with Tom Conti and Nigel Havers.
Kemp attended Central Foundation Boys’ School in Islington while growing up in north London. His photograph is prominently displayed on the school’s wall of fame alongside those of other notable former students. He started an apprenticeship in a print mill after finishing high school at 16 but quickly lost interest.
Roman Kemp’s Mother: Shirlie Holliman
English singer Shirlie Kemp (born Shirley Holliman; 18 April 1962) rose to success in the 1980s with Wham! and as a member of the duo Pepsi & Shirlie.
Shirley Holliman, the fourth of Arthur and Margaret Holliman’s five children, was raised in Bushey, a town close to Watford in Hertfordshire, on a council estate. When Holliman had hay fever at age 18 and was left without much to do, her then-boyfriend Andrew Ridgeley recommended she come to dance as he and his friend George Michael’s band played a local show. Holliman had originally planned to train as a horse riding instructor.
Holliman never played in the band that would later become Wham! However, like her friend Dee C. Lee, she remained to live with her parents and was paid as a supporting singer on a per-performance basis.
Lee was replaced by “Pepsi” DeMacque after she left to join the Style Council and eventually marry its lead singer Paul Weller. This duet appeared on all of the Wham! songs and shows.
