Personal life, ex-wife Scarlett Johansson
Romain met Scarlett Johansson in October 2012, during a lunch date held in New York. The two were introduced by their mutual tattoo and graffiti artist, Fuzi Uvtpk. As Scarlett likes tattoos and has plenty of them on her body, she and Romain instantly found mutual interests and themes to discuss. It is known that Romain spoke little English when he met Scarlett, but the power attracting them to each other was stronger than any language barrier. In November 2012, the couple officially revealed the fact of their relationship to the press; it was not long after Scarlett broke up with Nate Naylor, a freelance art director, whom she dated for less than a year.
In September 2013, during the 70th Annual Venice International Film Festival, Scarlett was seen wearing a vintage Art Deco style ring, which she later characterized as ‘an engagement sparkler’. In her interview with People in 2014 Scarlett shared her feelings: ‘I love his brain more than anything <…> he does all the sweet gestures for me. He’s a gentleman’ – the actress was happy to finally announce the upcoming wedding. The couple welcomed their daughter, Rose Dorothy Dauriac in the middle of 2014 (Scarlett insisted on the middle name Dorothy as it was her grandmother’s name, Dorothy Sloan, who she was very close to during her childhood); the couple married on 1 October of the same year in Philipsburg, Montana.
Separation
However, in January 2017, it appeared that Scarlett and Romain no longer live together, splitting at the end of 2016.
Scarlett filed for divorce, which was announced to be a ‘shock’ for Romain, as his lawyer, Hal Mayerson, called Johansson’s actions a “pre-emptive strike” in the upcoming fight for the custody over their daughter, Rose Dorothy. Mayerson also stated that he considered Romain to be ‘the primary parent’ for Rose, as Scarlett Johansson was almost always busy filming, working and promoting her cinematography projects, barely spending quality time with her child.
In December 2017 Scarlett officially announced her new relationship with Colin Jost, a co-head writer from the “Saturday Night Live” team; he is also a co-host of “Weekend Update”. The couple became engaged in May 2019 – no updates on Romain’s current relationship status have been revealed.
