Having taken his Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice from Texas A&M International University, he started his career working for Texas A&M International University. Next, he began working for R.L. Burns Corporation, and eventually, he joined R.L. Burns Corporation. It was in 1982 that he had his first oil well for only $13,000. One year later, he founded Lewis Energy and has turned into a company that drills gas from wells spread on 500,000 acres of south Texas. An esophageal cancer survivor, he currently resides in San Antonio, Texas with his wife and their four children.
