According to a press release from the SLED, the shooting was caused by a confrontation between a member of a US Marshals Service task force and a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives agent.
Wright was charged with possession with intent to distribute 500 grams of cocaine and possession of three pistols by a prohibited person in furtherance of narcotics trafficking on Feb. 2 in U.S. District Court in Augusta.
In the same month, he was charged with possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute it in Richmond County Superior Court.
