American pianist, record producer, songwriter, and musical arranger Robert Andre Glasper was born on April 6, 1978. His work crosses several musical and artistic genres but is mostly concerned with jazz. Glasper has received five Grammy Awards so far and has received eleven nominations in eight categories.
His playing career formally began when Glasper started touring as a sideman with some of the established greats of the scene while still a student at The New School in New York (bassist Christian McBride, and trumpeters Terence Blanchard and Roy Hargrove).
Along with musicians like Jill Scott, The Roots, and J Dilla, Robert and his New School classmate Bilal participated in the neo-soul and hip-hop movements as their friendship and the artistic relationship grew. Glasper simultaneously assumed the position of Yasiin Bey’s music director (formerly Mos Def).
Robert Glasper Parents: Meet Kim Yvette Glasper And Gerald Glasper
Glasper’s mother Kim Yvette Glasper, a renowned jazz and blues singer, was one of his earliest musical influences. Instead of leaving her son with babysitters, she brought him along on club dates. At the East Wind Baptist Church, where Glasper had her first public performance, she served as the music director.
He gave performances at Baptist, Catholic, and Seventh-day Adventist churches. According to Glasper, he originally found his sound in church, where he discovered his unique method of hearing harmony and was motivated to fuse jazz harmonies with the traditional church and gospel harmonies. Personal details of both his parents are inaccessible at the moment. Our research team is doing its best to make sure you’re updated.
