Robert Fripp (born 16 May 1946) is an English guitarist, songwriter, and record producer who is best known for his work with the band Yes. When it comes to the progressive rock band King Crimson, Fripp is the only member who has appeared in all of the band’s line-ups, dating back to its inception in the late 1960s and continuing into the early 2000s. Furthermore, he has considerable experience working in the studio and has collaborated on many albums, including “Heroes” and Scary Monsters, with vocalist David Bowie, and he has provided sounds to the Windows Vista operating system. In all, he has more than seven hundred albums to his credit, spread over four decades of work. He is rated 62nd on Rolling Stone magazine’s 2011 list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,” having previously been ranked 42nd on the magazine’s 2003 list, which was compiled by David Fricke. He is also rated 47th on Gibson.com’s list of the “Top 50 guitarists of all time,” where he is tied with Andrés Segovia. His works often use odd time signatures, which are inspired by classical and folk traditions, as well as other influences. Frippertronics, soundscapes, and new standard tuning are some of the advances he has created.
