Rob Ford: Meet Doug Ford’s Brother

Robert Bruce Ford was a Canadian politician and businessman who served as the 64th mayor of Toronto from 2010 to 2014.

He is the younger brother of Doug Ford, also a politician and businessman who has served as the 26th and current premier of Ontario since June 2018.

Their father co-founded Deco Labels and Tags, which creates pressure-sensitive labels for plastic-wrapped grocery products and has an estimated annual sales of CA$100 million.

Rob Ford was a city councillor representing Ward 2 Etobicoke North both before and during his stint as mayor. He was initially elected to Toronto City Council in the 2000 municipal election, and he was re-elected twice.

Ford took a leave of absence to seek treatment for his alcohol and drug addiction. Despite the scandal, Ford initially ran for mayor in the October 2014 election.

However, he withdrew after he was hospitalised and diagnosed with an abdominal malignancy in September 2014. Ford received cancer treatment and briefly returned to council, but died in March 2016 after chemotherapy proved futile.

Rob’s brothers Doug and Randy took on stewardship of Rob’s share of Deco Labels and Tags upon his death
