Rick Smith took a leave of absence from his position as general manager of the Houston Texans just over a year ago to care for his wife Tiffany as she fought breast cancer.
Thursday night, Smith issued a statement announcing Tiffany’s defeat.
According to ABC 13, Smith stated, “Tiffany Avery Smith, my wife of 17 years, passed away today at 12:00 noon, after a valiant battle with Breast Cancer.”
On New Year’s Eve of 2017, the Texans declared that Rick Smith will be taking a leave of absence. Bill O’Brien, the head coach of the Texans, and Smith had also argued about choices the team had made before Smith left.
Smith was out of commission for the foreseeable future, so the Texans chose Brian Gaine to fill him as general manager.
