Retired NFL Players In Commercials And Super Bowl Ad

Retired NFL players in commercials include Troy Aikman, Brett Favre, Eli Manning, Deion Sanders, Joe Greene, Tom Brady, and many others.

Footballers with excellent selling power and popularity are the target of brands to help them reach a wide range of audiences. Brands spend millions of dollars creating advertisements to get as much return on investment as possible.

Suppose a brand goes into the market with the faces of Brady, Manning, Montana, or some other hugely respected football player as their brand ambassador. In that case, they get the credibility and assurance of bringing in new customers and increasing their profit.

On the other hand, retired athletes can earn millions by working for a few days. There is a win-win situation for both.

Commercials with retired football players include the NFL Super Bowl 2022 Commerical ‘Bring Down the House.’ It stars Michael Strahan, Peyton Manning, Deion Sanders,, Al Michaels, Marshawn Lynch, and some active sportspersons.

Pepsi Unretire Commercial

PepsiCo released a sixty-second ad titled ‘Unretirement’ on its YouTube channel on August 30, 2023.

Four NFL legends, Dan Marino, Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice, and Randy Moss, are present. They are seen enjoying a Sunday afternoon game between the Dolphins and the Patriots. The video is powered by Frito-Lay.

The four are lying back and enjoying chips and soft drinks. Smith says, “Man, I wish I was out there,” to which Marino adds, “Let’s unretire.” In response, Smith replies, “Why not?”

The verse ‘Guess who’s back, back again’ from Eminem’s “Without Me” plays in the backdrop as the retired NFL stars change into their football gear.

Fans are surprised to see the legends return to the field. The hilarious one-minute video where they show how their prime is past them, and the aging has caught them displays humility at its best.

The “I need a senior discount” call from Rice to the boy selling chips and drinks accounts for one of the hilarious takes.

Josh Allen’s cameo asking a tackled Marino, who is lying on his back for a selfie, shows that today’s stars are some of the biggest fans of the legends.

The visualization ends when Emmitt says, “I’m good where I am, bro.” The gang chuckles and agrees with his statement.

The entire video ends with Tom Brady and Julian Edelman when Brady sarcastically looks at his former teammate after stating, “Unretirement? Who’d be dumb enough to do that?” It is a callback to his unretirement of 2022 after calling it quit in 2021.

As many as 44 NFL past and present players were in the advertisement to celebrate the 100th year of the NFL.

The ad starts with Roger Goodell’s welcome speech. In the meantime, Running back Marshawn Lynch tries to have a piece of the cake and accidentally knocks the golden football sitting atop the cake.

Former Linebacker and Hall of Famer Mike Singletary shouts ‘Fumble,’ and all hell breaks loose in the room.

The room is filled with chaos, with every footballer chasing the ball and throwing from one end to another. Every player is stylized in their skill, from Mahomes’ no-look pass to Beckham’s one-hand stunner.

Likewise, the reminiscence of Montana grabbing the ball and Irvin calling for the pass is revisited. Another callback is Harris’s rebound pass, highlighting the 1972 immaculate reception.
