Reggie Barlow Career / NFL
College career
A record-breaking receiver and kick returner, Reggie was selected to Alabama State University by Houston Markham. During his senior year at Alabama State, Barlow got fifty-eight passes for 1,267 yards. The Montgomery, Alabama local and Sidney Lanier High School champion finished his university calling with 133 catches and 2,536 yards.
Professional career
Barlow was selected in the 4th round of the 1996 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Barlow led the NFL in punt return yardage, with 43 returns for 555 yards and a touchdown in 1998, and was named a Pro Bowl alternate. He still ranks among the Jaguars’ career leaders for most punt returns (79), most punt return yards (967), and average per return (12.2), as well as among the all-time single-season leaders in punt return yardage (555 in 1998, tied for 37th best all-time as of 2014). After five years in Jacksonville, Barlow joined the Oakland Raiders. In 2002, Barlow began his two-year tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won a championship ring in Super Bowl XXXVII.
Reggie ended his NFL career with 39 receptions for 522 yards and 1 touchdown. His largest analytical contributions were made on beginning and punt returns. Barlow returned 80 career kickoffs for 1,855 yards and one touchdown, and 158 punts for 1,639 yards and two touchdowns.
Coaching career
Reggie entered the Alabama State Hornets football staff as quarterbacks mentor in 2005. In his first season, Barlow filled in as coach and mentor to future NFL second-round draftee Tarvaris Jackson.
In 2006, Barlow worked with a trio of quarterbacks without a solitary snap of school football foundation between them. Under Barlow’s tutelage, Alex Engram earned a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Newcomer of the Week grant and completed eighth in the gathering in the all-out offense.
After that season, Barlow was named between time lead trainer. Half a month later, the broken title was evacuated. Barlow took over as lead trainer in 2007 and has arranged a general record of 48–42. In 2010, the Hornets went 7–5, asserted their fourth through and through SWAC Eastern Divisional title and made their third outing to the class’ title game in eight seasons. In 2011, the Hornets improved to 8–3 winning the Turkey Day Classic over Tuskegee.
Barlow has trained a couple of momentum and previous NFL players, including Seattle Seahawks quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, who was an individual from the Super Bowl XLVIII Championship group, Cleveland Browns running back Isaiah Crowell, and Washington Redskins hostile tackle Terren Jones, just as previous Oakland Raiders receiver Greg Jenkins and previous Baltimore Ravens linebacker Nigel Carr (American football).
In 2014, after the culmination of the school’s football season, the Alabama State University Board of Trustees casted a ballot not to reestablish Barlow’s agreement. The move was viewed as flawed in light of the fact that Barlow had marked an agreement expansion and compensation increment months earlier and had just started getting paid at a higher rate. Suit is pending in the agreement debate. The Hornets football crew completed 7–5 on the season. This was Barlow’s fifth successive winning season and his 49 vocation wins rank him second unsurpassed among mentors in program history.
It was declared in December 2015, that Reggie had acknowledged on a fundamental level to turn into the head football trainer at Carver-Columbus HS in Columbus, Ga. Only a couple of months after the fact, in any case, Barlow was considered as a possibility for the head football training work at Sidney Lanier (Ala.) HS, his place of graduation.
