With the broadcast of episode 8, subtitled Yoshino in the show Tokyo Vice, on April 28, audiences are interested in what Tozawa’s sickness may be in Tokyo Vice.
Tozawa is a character in the television series Tokyo Vice, where he is the commander of a rival Yakuza group that has lately arrived in Tokyo. The character of Tozawa is said to be based on real-life crime lord Tadamasa Goto, who suffered from liver disease.
Tokyo Vice is a criminal thriller developed by J.T. Rogers centered on Jake Adelstein’s 2009 book, which aired on HBO Max on April 7, 2022. Its principal actors are Ansel Elgort and Ken Watanabe.
In 2013, it was announced that it would be made into a film, with Daniel Radcliffe as Adelstein. Anthony Mandler was supposed to helm, and development was further enough to establish a mid-2014 production start date.
In June 2019, WarnerMedia ordered an 8-episode straight-to-series order for the project, which will be available on their streaming channel HBO Max.
What Illness Does Tozawa Have in Tokyo Vice?
In a recent episode, Tozawa gets attacked and falls to the ground at a party. Since the beginning of the series, Tozawa has struggled with an incurable sickness.
His illness is linked to one of his internal organs, which is suspected to be his liver, and he is in desperate need of a transplant.

Although his sickness is not revealed in the show, many viewers have speculated on what it may be. According to one doctor in a Reddit discussion, it might be lupus-induced liver cirrhosis. Nevertheless, other admirers believe his sickness is cancer.
Many people assume his disease is related to his liver since the lesion he concealed on his face in a prior episode resembled a spider angioma.
This is common in people with liver problems. In an episode, Tozawa was also shown undergoing right upper quadrant ultrasonography, where the liver is located.
Is It Based on A Real-Life Incident?
Jake Adelstein, a real-life reporter, inspired the character of Tokyo Vice. He arrived in Japan at 19 and landed a job at the influential daily Yomiuri Shinbun.

The writer was the first American to work there, serving from 1993 to 2005. When he authored a piece on Tadamasa Goto, his tenure at Yomiuri Shinbun ended.
According to Screenrant, he was a Yakuza leader who posed as an FBI informant to be approved for a liver transplant in the United States. Yomiuri Shinbun declined to print the piece, prompting Jake to resign from his job and self-publish it.
