Raymond Childs Wiki – Raymond Childs Biography
Raymond Childs, Kezzie Child, 18-year-old Elijah Childs, 13-year-old Rita Childs, 19-year-old Kiara Hawkins, and Baby Boy Hawkins, the unborn child of Kiara Hawkins. This morning, I heard four shots fired. I peeped out, didn’t see anything,” said neighbor Rivon Allen- Bailey.
But the neighbor in the home directly across from the scene says she didn’t hear anything either. Well, they knocked on my door at 5, the police. Asked did I hear anything, I said no,” said neighbor Vicki Pinkston.
At that point, Pinkston was informed of a shooting at her neighbor’s house but didn’t know else further. I just immediately got me some clothes on. I’m still the same way, pajamas on and everything,” said Pinkston.

Kezzie Child was wife of Raymond Childs.
Shot Dead
She broke down in tears once she learned, just six feet away from her doorstep, a total of six were killed including an unborn child. Still processing the tragedy, she immediately began to realize she never knew their names, only their kind hearts and friendly waves.
“They are so sweet. The ‘lil’ boy so sweet. Oh lord, they say ‘Hi, Miss, Vicki’ all the time…Now I gotta look over there and not hear they say ‘Hi Miss Vicki, how’s your day going,’” said Pinkston. District 9 City Councilman William Oliver lives two minutes from where this incident took place. He says this is a loving community and this was a disgraceful act.
“If it was one person or five, I’m totally angry, hurt, and embarrassed,” said Oliver. The community has a message to whoever took a total of six lives including one that never saw the light of day. The act of murder, mass murder. The shame they brought to the household, to our community is an ultimate disgrace,” said Oliver.
It’s personal for Pinkston because she knew this family. She along with many others wonders how someone could commit a crime like this. How you feel? How you feeling? How are you feeling about this? It could’ve been yours; it could’ve been somebody in your family,” said Pinkston.
The remaining family members spent the day trying to console one another at the scene. Meanwhile, strangers passed by to offer prayers and condolences.
“My heart goes out to them and my prayers and best wishes and comfort to the family,” said Oliver.
Suspect
Police have not named the shooter yet. However, IMPD Police Chief Randal Taylor says police think the victims were targeted deliberately by one killer or a group after a surge of shootings across the city.
He added: “What we saw this morning was a different kind of evil. What happened this morning, based on the evidence that’s been gathered so far, was mass murder. More than that, it was not random.”
Investigation Report
Officers with the IMPD first responded at around 3:45 a.m. to a reported shooting and discovered a juvenile victim, who was transported to an area hospital in critical condition but expected to survive. By 4:41 a.m., however, officers had discovered the other victims in a nearby home, WXIN reported.
Taylor said during the news conference that he is “heartbroken for the lives that were taken too soon, for the young life that has forever been changed, and for the life that never got a chance to start,” WTHR reported.
Investigators stated it appears the family was targeted, and they do not believe the public is in danger, WXIN reported.
According to WTHR, authorities identified the victims Sunday night as Kezzie Childs, 42; Raymond Childs Jr., 42; Elijah Childs, 18; Rita Childs, 13; Kiara Hawkins, 19; and baby boy Hawkins (fetus), child of Kiara Hawkins.
“I want those responsible to know that the full might of local, state, and federal law enforcement are coming for them as I speak. Coming for them today. Coming for them tonight. Coming for them tomorrow and the day after that. Coming for them as long as it takes to find them,” Hogsett said during the news conference.
Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett warned the killers: “I want those responsible to know that the full might of local, state and federal law enforcement are coming for them as I speak.”
He said: “This morning the city of Indianapolis was targeted with an act of depravity that has become all too common across the country and will never cease to shock the conscience.
“What happened this morning was not a simple act of gun violence … What happened this morning was a mass murder.
He did add that in the preliminary investigation, it was suggested the killings were not made in connection to the “deadly confluence of guns, substance abuse and poverty” in the city.
