Thomas Barrack’s net worth, biography, fact, career, awards and life story

Thomas Barrack Net Worth: Thomas Barrack is an American private equity real estate investor who has a net worth of $1 billion. Mr. Barrack has created his enormous wealth as the founder, chairman and CEO of Colony Capital, a private, international investment firm headquartered in Santa Monica, California. Thomas Barrack did the opposite to what others real estate investors would have done when he set up Colony Capital in 1991 to buy estate loans from busted S&Ls. Unlikely as it may have seemed at the time, his move turned out bankable since the company now manages $34 billion in assets, along with $18 billion in 16 commercial real estate and distressed debt-focused funds. But this descendant of Lebanese immigrants to Los Angeles has started to build his fortune long before Colony’s establishment, mainly through buying out-of-favor assets. Among his most successful buyouts can be mentioned the $200 million in Middle East real estate and $534 million in non-performing German real estate loans. As for his most unconventional investments, they include Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch and a $24 million loan to photographer Annie Leibowitz.
