Ralph Abraham (Full name – Ralph Lee Abraham Jr.) is an American politician, medical doctor, and former veterinarian from Alto, Louisiana. He was born on September 16, 1954, in Alto, Louisiana, U.S.
Abraham won the election on December 6, 2014, as a Republican to represent Louisiana’s 5th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. He is ran for Governor of Louisiana in the 2019 Louisiana gubernatorial election and placed third, behind fellow Republican Eddie Rispone and Democratic incumbent John Bel Edwards. Therefore, Abraham failed to advance to the runoff, which is required under Louisiana law as no candidate received a majority in the primary.

Abraham is the son of Ralph Abraham, Sr. (1933–1980) and the former Marlene Posey (1932–2015), a retired educator. Both of his paternal grandparents were emigrants from Lebanon. Abraham is married to his wife, Dianne, with whom he has three children. He has also been an aviation medical examiner.

Ralph Abraham For Governor Campaign
Abraham declared his candidacy for Governor of Louisiana in the 2019 Louisiana gubernatorial election on December 6, 2018. He ran strong campaigns throughout the state of Louisiana but lost, placing third behind fellow Republican Eddie Rispone and Democratic incumbent John Bel Edwards.
However, none of the top two candidates secured a majority which now requires a runoff between the top two contenders in accordance with Louisiana law. In his concession speech, Abraham thanked his supporters and his family, stating the campaign experience brought his family closer together. Following his defeat, Abraham has endorsed Eddie Rispone for the November 16 gubernatorial election.

Abraham earned most of his income from his practice as a veterinarian. As a congressman, he had promised not to take his salary during his 2014 campaign but would instead donate all his compensation to charity.
However, this pledge only went for his first term in office. After his re-election, Abraham went on to collect his salary as usual. It is said that it was after his election to the congress that he learned of the limitation on how much he could earn from his private practice.
A Washington newspaper that covers Congress, estimated a year ago, in 2018, that Abraham had a net worth of $4.8 million, making him the 65th wealthiest member of Congress.

Ralph Abraham Voting Record
Abraham had a “D” rating from the marijuana legalization advocacy group NORML in 2016, for his voting history regarding cannabis-related causes. He opposes late-term abortions. Abraham stated, in May 2005, that “As a doctor, I know and I can attest that this bill is backed by scientific research showing that babies can indeed feel pain at 20 weeks, if not before”
He has also said that he is in support of banning sanctuary cities in Louisiana if he is elected governor and that he’d pay for four minority congresswomen, three of whom were born in the U.S., to leave the United States, if only they’d tell him where they’d like to go. Abraham supports efforts to ban transgender people from serving in the military “100 percent.
