Rachel Pierce is an American co-anchor of NBC2 News Today. Besides, she is an Emmy nominated journalist and currently sits on the board of the Southwest Florida Press Club. She joined the NBC2 news in 2014.

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – A 72-year-old father said he shot his own son because he had it coming. Father and son bonding at a home on Alan Boulevard in Punta Gorda Saturday didn’t go as planned. Larry Clyatt Sr. and his son were drinking and talking about the coronavirus.
Clyatt Sr. feared thieves might use this pandemic to break into his home, so he pulled out his pistol and started to clean it. Clyatt’s son didn’t want him to clean the gun because they both had been drinking, the arrest report said.
The two wrestled for the gun — then Clyatt Sr. put a bullet in his son’s hip. When deputies showed up to arrest Clyatt Sr., he first said it was an accident, and though the gun wasn’t loaded.
Then in an interesting twist, Clyatt told NBC2 his son provoked him and had it coming. Clyatt Sr. allegedly told deputies “his son deserved it” and “he meant to shoot him”.
Clyatt’s son was taken to the hospital. He did not want to press charges against his dad. Clyatt Sr. is facing a charge for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
