Quarterbacks Drafted In The First Round

Quarterbacks drafted in the first round are Kenny Pickett and Joe Burrow. Big 10 quarterbacks drafted in the first round are Dwayne Haskins and Kerry Collins.

QB is that one position the NFL teams look up to to make it strong with new draft players. The offensive position calls the signals in a game and also directs their offensive take on the game.

Hence, quarterback-playing players are often the choice of teams to select in the first round. In the last five years of the NFL Draft, 2019 and 2021 saw the most quarterbacks at five being selected in the first round.

Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma was selected by the Browns in the first round, first overall, followed by four others. Meanwhile, in 2021, Trevor Lawrence of Clemson followed the same as the first pick of the Jaguars.

Kyler Murray of Oklahoma was the first overall pick in 2019, followed by Joe Burrow from Louisiana State in 2020. However, Kenny Pickett of Pittsburg was selected 20th overall in the first round by the Steelers.

Current Left Handed Quarterbacks In The NFL

Left handed quarterbacks NFL current is Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins. Tua Tagovailoa was drafted into the NFL in 2020.

It may be surprising, but the 25-year-old was not born lefthanded. Thanks to his dad Galu Tagovailoa, Tua learned to throw the ball with his left hand.

In his first-ever match, the 6 feet tall QB played against New York Jets and emerged victorious. Before him, Kellen Moore served as the lefty QB from the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions teams.

Only a few quarterbacks are left-handed in the history of the American football league.

Frankie Albert – The First Left-Handed Quarterback

Albert commenced his NFL career in 1942 after getting drafted by the Chicago Bears. Frankie was picked in the first round as the 10th choice.

He gave spectacular performances with a height of 5 feet 10 inches and 75 kg. He had passing yards of 10,975 and touchdowns of 115 as an American gridiron football player.

Frankie’s successful career ended in 1952 after he decided to retire. Albert breathed his last on 4 September 2002. In 1956, the former player was named to the College Football Hall of Fame, as per Wikipedia.

Albert worked as a coach for the San Francisco 49ers for three seasons. In a nutshell, if there is a discussion regarding the best lefty QB to play in the field in history, his name always tops the list.

The left-handed quarterback, and still in the business, is only Tagovailoa. Before him, Kellen Moore used to hold that title until 2017.

Kellen showed his adept skills in American football for 6 seasons as he played for Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions.

Here are some of the famous lefty QBs, their draft year, and retirement year.

  • Ken Stabler (1970, 1984)
  • Jim Zorn (1976, 1987)
  • Steve Young (1984, 1999)
  • Scott Mitchell (1991, 2001)
