Dr. David Fismanresigned from his post said the policy appeared to be affecting public health councils and claimed on social media that the entity was sitting on modeling data and “was expecting a severe decline.”
He also noted that he is “increasingly concerned with the extent to which political considerations seem to bring results off the table, or at least the extent to which they are transparently shared with the public.
He said he found himself in an awkward position repeatedly and publicly opposed to the negotiating table guidance. However, in hindsight, he was satisfied with his position on related issues.
He said that He doesn’t want to be left in this awkward position. On the other hand, a choice had to be made between a peaceful relationship with colleagues and the need to tell the truth during a public health crisis.
The letter of resignation appeared to be sent the day before Fisman said on social media that the Ontario Science Council had a model job that was “expected to be in a pessimistic recession.”
