Priscilla Lopez Career

The musical A Chorus Line is based on Lopez’s experiences as a theatre student. Tiffany’s would have been her Broadway debut if it had survived, but the show was afflicted by so many issues that its creative team felt it impossible to fix.
She then went on to play Henry, Sweet Henry for two months at the end of 1967, when she was 19 years old. Her fortunes did not improve the next year when Her First Roman only lasted two weeks.
Lopez had critical and popular success as a substitute in two shows: Stephen Sondheim’s Company (1970), and the 1972 blockbuster Pippin (1974), in which he replaced original actor Leland Palmer in the part of Fastrada.
Two years later, she was invited to participate in a series of tape-recorded group therapy-style sessions in which chorus boys and girls, dubbed “Gypsies,” bared their souls and revealed their lives, goals, and frustrations by director and choreographer Michael Bennett.
A Chorus Line (1975) was born out of these sessions, and Lopez was requested to join the group as Diana Morales, a role based on herself.

She introduced the hit song “What I Did for Love”, and sang “Nothing”, a song about a disastrously unsupportive drama class at the High School of Performing Arts.

Lopez stepped out of the ensemble and into the foreground in A Day in Hollywood / A Night in the Ukraine (1980), demonstrating her comedic and vocal abilities.
The show consisted of two acts: a mini-musical about the early days of filmmaking, written by Dick Vosburgh and Frank Lazarus with extra material by Jerry Herman, and a spoof of the slapstick Marx Brothers films, starring Lopez as Harpo.
She won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in the production, which lasted nearly a year and a half.
Tommy Tune, with whom she had previously worked in Hollywood and Ukraine, hired her as his assistant on Nine, the musical adaptation of Federico Fellini’s film 812, in 1982.
She joined the company in the middle of the run, filling in for Tony winner Liliane Montevecchi in the role of Liliane La Fleur. Lopez also starred in the critically praised drama Anna in the Tropics on Broadway in 2003.
Lopez played Camilla in the Broadway version of In the Heights from 2008 to 2011. On July 22, 2014, she took over the role of Berthe from Annie Potts in the revival of Pippin, which ran from July 22 to August 31, 2014.

Off-Broadway

Her off-Broadway credits include Other People’s Money, Key Exchange, Extremities, The Oldest Profession, Beauty of the Father, and Class Mothers ’68, for which she was nominated for a Drama Desk Award as Best Actress. She was featured in the City Center Encores! production of Babes in Arms.

Priscilla Lopez Movies and Tv Shows

Television

In 1978, Lopez starred as a liberal nun in the Norman Lear sitcom In the Beginning alongside McLean Stevenson, which was a flop. She appeared as Buddy’s (McNichol) dance friend in the disco episodes of the ABC drama Family, starring Kristy McNichol and Sada Thompson.
She voiced Herself the Elf in the animated television show The Magic of Herself the Elf in 1983. Kay O’Brien, a short-lived 1986 medical drama, featured her in a significant role.
Lopez acted in the television film For the Love of My Child: The Anissa Ayala Story in 1993, in which she played a woman who, with the help of her husband, conceives a child in order to supply a compatible bone marrow donor for their older daughter.

Other television work includes L.A. Law, Law & Order, All in the Family, Trapper John, M.D., and Cosby.
