Exploring photos of Alexis Avila on Facebook, she’s the lady from Hobbs who was charged with attempted murder after abandoning her baby in a dumpster.
Alexis Avila, 18, has been charged with the attempted murder of her newborn baby by Hobbs police.
The event occurred on Friday, and video evidence was taken.
At around 8 p.m. Friday, police in Hobbs, New Mexico, approximately three miles from the Texas state line, responded to a complaint, and paramedics rushed the newborn to a Lubbock, Texas, hospital.
The child’s condition, however, is stated to be stable.
The mother, Alexis Avila, was found after investigators used security video from the scene to identify a suspect vehicle. She admitted to giving birth and discarding the child, according to police.
New Mexico lacks a Safe Haven statute, which would allow someone to abandon an infant up to 90 days old with hospital staff without the worry of criminal punishment if the kid had not been abused or neglected.
Avila may or may not have been aware of the law. The nearest hospital was around four miles away from the abandoned baby.
