Philip Spalding was a bassist from England. Spalding’s expertise with Fender Precision Bass guitars made him well recognized as a session musician. Randy Crawford, Mick Jagger, Seal, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Elton John, and other performers were among the ones he performed with and made appearances with. Spalding had a successful modeling career as a young child and was featured in a Smiths Crisps television commercial.
Before joining the rock musician Bernie Tormé in 1976, Spalding worked as a computer operator for a high street bank. Then, in December 1980, he started working with Toyah after joining Original Mirrors. Spalding co-wrote songs for studio albums while he was a member of The Toyah Band, and from 1977 through 1983, he toured with them.
Spalding was a member of the bands GTR and Mike Oldfield. Spalding has appeared on albums by Michel Polnareff, Suggs, Robbie Williams, and Kylie Minogue in recent years. All bass tracks on the Lion King soundtrack studio album were also recorded by Spalding.
