Phil Hansen Anselmo is an American heavy metal vocalist. He is widely known as the lead singer for Pantera, Down and Superjoint, and other musical projects.
Recognised as one of the most iconic frontmen in heavy metal history, Anselmo is admired by fans for his animated and aggressive on-stage antics.
Earlier in his career with the band, Anselmo took considerable inspiration from heavy metal vocalists such as Rob Halford, singing in full head voice. However, he became recognized for introducing a more guttural approach to the vocals.

Phil’s father Phil Anselmo was a businessman. He graduated from John McDonogh High School in 1966. He attended Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond before moving back to New Orleans.
Phil became a well-known bar and restaurant owner of places such as The Library in New Orleans, C Beevers, and Anselmo’s Restaurant in Metairie before retiring in 2009.
Phil Anselmo died on January 21, 2021.
