Peter Bryden Malinauskas is a politician. He has been the 47th and current premier of South Australia since March 2022.

He has served as the Australian Labor Party’s (ALP) South Australian branch leader and a member of the House of Assembly (MHA) for the Croydon district since April 2018.

Before leading his party into power in the state election 2022, he served as the leader of the Opposition from 2018 to that point.

Since 2018, Malinauskas has served as a Labor representative for the Croydon constituency in the South Australian House of Assembly.

Additionally, the politician served in the South Australian Legislative Council between 2015 and 2018.

Peter Malinauskas Religion: What Nationality Does The Politician Hold?

Peter Malinauskas is catholic and follows Christianity. The fact that he was raised a Catholic and still maintains his faith has not been addressed.

Malinauskas, who comes from a Catholic family, was sent to Mercedes College, where he excelled in his studies and had leadership potential in cricket and football.

He served as the 12th-grade school captain and student representative council member. Malinauskas was remembered by Peter Daw, the principal of Mercedes College, as “a future leader.”

The politician was also “one of those kids involved in lots of things,” a “popular lad,” and had a “magnetic personality that appealed to teachers and students alike,” according to Daw.

Additionally, the leader of Labor is portrayed as a typical Australian throughout the election campaign as a dad who enjoys gardening on the weekends and playing soccer.

The resignations of Mr. Snelling and Mr. Kenyon from the party served as a signal to Labor’s influential Catholic Right group, which Mr. Malinauskas heads, that the party needed to do more to represent the faction’s views.

In line with the views of Liberal conservatives, Mr. Snelling expressed alarm over the growing “restrictions on religious freedom” in Australia.

Moreover, when Mr. Farrell left to become a senator in 2008 at the age of 27, Mr. Malinauskas took over as state secretary, replacing then-senator Linda Kirk, who disregarded the SDA’s Catholic traditions by supporting the morning-after abortion pill.

Mr. Malinauskas said his opinions would be “considered socially conservative” when asked about topics including gay marriage, stem-cell research, euthanasia, and abortion.

Eta, the paternal grandmother of Malinauskas, fled the communist regime in postwar Hungary by emigrating to Bathurst in New South Wales after surviving World War II.

She married a Lithuanian refugee named Peter Malinauskas Sr., and they went to Adelaide, where they later started a fish and chip shop. The ancestors of Malinauskas’ mother were middle-class Irish people.

Malinauskas’ family lived at Colonel Light Gardens throughout his formative years. From 1995 at age 15, Malinauskas worked for Woolworths for seven years as a trolley boy, checkout operator, and night filler.

By unionizing the Woolworths workforce, he established an early and enduring political friendship with Don Farrell.

Additionally, Malinauskas earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Adelaide while working for Woolworths, with support and guidance from his parents.
