American professional baseball first baseman Pete Alonso got injured after being struck by a fastball on the left shoulder and darting into the faceguard of his helmet. He, at the moment, was playing in The Mets’ 5-1 opening Day win over the Nationals.
Alonso is twenty-seven years first baseman playing for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB).

To be here is a truly unique experience for me. This is a memorable spring training because of yesterday’s near-death experience.”
According to his wife, Pete was hit by a vehicle that ran a red light on his way to his first day of spring training in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The collision under examination was an emergency, and the driver had gone to the medical clinic as a preventative measure.
