After 14 years, Peggy O’s Kitchen and Taps in Palm Harbor has closed
After 14 years in downtown Palm Harbor, the popular Irish pub originally opened as Peggy O’Neill’s has closed. Peggy O’s Kitchen and Taps bid farewell to 1026 Florida Ave. with one last hurrah on June 28.
Owner Tamara Helms told the Times that the proprietor of the pub’s building didn’t want to renew her lease, and she isn’t looking for another location.
“I’ve been here 10 years, and, in all honesty, I’m ready to be done,” said Helms, who has 35 years of restaurant ownership under her belt. “It’s bittersweet. I love Palm Harbor, and I helped with all the downtown events and relandscaping down here as part of the Merchants Association … So, of course, I’m going to miss it, but I’m ready to move on.”
Launched in 2005, Peggy O’s was known for its annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration as much as its live music. The pub isn’t affiliated with Peggy O’Neill’s in Tampa, which Helms said she sold years ago and remains open.
You can take home a piece of Peggy O’s on July 24, when the pub will auction off everything from equipment and tables to chairs and memorabilia. The owner even snagged something for herself: a little painting someone did of the building. As Helms put it, “This was just kind of the go-to place for everyone.”
