Patty Smyth’s Net Worth, Husband John McEnroe – Biography

Who is Patty Smyth? Wiki Bio

Patricia ‘Patty’ Smyth was born in New York City, USA, on 26 June 1957, so her zodiac sign is Cancer and she holds American nationality. She is a singer and a songwriter, who gained recognition when she became a member of the band Scandal, prior to becoming a solo singer.

Childhood and education

Patty was raised an only child in New York by her mother who was a trapeze artist and a huge fan of show business, and is best known for working for the guitarist Link Wray as his manager. Patty’s mother also owned and ran several nightclubs, and Patty would often watch people sing and act there with her mother. Patty’s father, George Smyth was a construction worker.

She became interested in singing at the age of five and by the time she was seven was already taking singing lessons. She attended a local high school where she practiced both her acting and singing skills, and when she was 15 made her debut singing performance, and then went on to perform at the Catch A Rising Star club every week.

Career as a singer

After matriculation in 1975, Patty started to work as a waitress, while performing in bars and clubs, working on her singing career. She joined the band Scandal in 1981 as their lead vocalist, and their eponymous debut extended play (EP) was released in 1982.

The band was signed to Columbia Records, and the album’s single “Goodbye to You” became a huge hit and the best-selling album Columbia Records had released up to that moment. Their second album “Warrior” followed in 1984, reaching #17 on the Billboard Hot 200 album chart, however, even though the album was a big success, there were several disagreements within the band, which led to Scandal falling apart.

Patty was then invited as a vocalist for the popular rock band Van Halen, however, as she was pregnant and close to giving birth, she declined, but could have been heard in other people’s songs, such as “Where Do the Children Go” by the band The Hooters in 1985.

Her debut solo album – “Never Enough” – was released in 1987, while her second self-titled album came out in 1992, producing the hit song “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough”, which was a duet with Don Henley, the guitarist and vocalist of the band The Eagles, and which reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

She worked together with two other people on the soundtrack “Look What Love Has Done” for the buddy comedy movie “Junior”, which was nominated for both a Grammy and Academy Award. In 1988, she was invited to write music for the critically acclaimed science fiction disaster movie “Armageddon”, coming up with “Wish I Were You”, then approached by VH1 in 2004 to appear in the program “Bands Reunited”, together with other Scandal members, and they decided to do a tour as Scandal on the USA East Coast.

Their compilation album “We Are the ‘80s” was released in 2006, without new songs but featuring three unreleased songs from 1982. On 17 January 2009, they released their first new song after 24 years, called “Hard for You to Love Me”, also known as “Make It Hard”.

Patty released a solo Christmas album – “Come On December” – on 20 November 2015; all the money for the pre-orders was given to charity.
