Patrick Peter started his hockey career at the EAC Pinguine team. In the EBEL hockey Austria league, he started in 2012 after joining the Vienna Austria hockey team. since then Patrick has never shifted to another team.

He was suspended by the 2019 IIHF Hockey world championship disciplinary panel for one game due to a head concussion. the incident occurred during the match between Latvia and Austria, his head was injured after hitting Bukarts head with his shoulder. Based on the incident the panel ruled out that the action was dangerous hence creating a serious risk of injury and violating IIHF Official Rule 124. Peter was assessed a one-game suspension to be served in the next game against Russia.
