Patricia Ann Carroll was an American actress and comedian. She was known for voicing Ursula in The Little Mermaid as well as having a long acting career, including appearances in CBS’s The Danny Thomas Show.
How did Pat Carroll die?
Carroll died from pneumonia at her home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, on July 30, 2022, at the age of 95. Undoubtedly, her most memorable character was Ursula for the 1989 Disney feature The Little Mermaid. It would prove to be one of her favorite roles.
“It was a lifelong ambition of mine to do a Disney film,” she told author Allan Neuwirth in Makin‘ Toons: Inside the Most Popular Animated TV Shows and Movies. “So, I was their hook, line, and sinker.”
Her voice acting as Ursula didn’t win her any prestigious awards, but Carroll’s voice did earn her a Grammy in 1981. She won in the category for Best Spoken Word, Documentary, or Drama Recording, for her reading of “Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein.”
