Dan is a Javelin thrower who represented Team GB in his first-ever Paralympics game held in Tokyo.

Dan Pembroke Disability

Dan Pembroke’s disability is linked with his vision from an early age.

Even if he wasn’t born with the defect, he was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa when he was just six years old. It is a genetic disorder that causes gradual loss of vision.

Even if it doesn’t cause complete blindness in the infected person, it takes away the peripheral vision and causes difficulty seeing at night.

Nonetheless, the athlete didn’t mind competing alongside able-bodied and never made himself feel like he was different from others. He even wanted to compete at the able-bodied javelin throw in the 2012 Olympics but couldn’t make it due to his elbow injury.
