Born Brij Mohan Nath Mishra on the 4th day of February 1938, he was popularly known as Pandit Birju Maharaj. He was a descendant of the Maharaj family of Kathak dancers, which includes his two uncles, Shambhu Maharaj and Lachhu Maharaj, and his father and guru, Acchan Maharaj.
Pandit Birju Maharaj worked with his uncle, Shambhu Maharaj at Bhartiya Kala Kendra, later the Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, and also practiced Hindustani classical music.
After retiring in 1998, Pandit Birju Maharaj opened his dance school, Kalashram, also in Delhi.
Pandit Birju Maharaj Cause Of Death
Pandit Birju Maharaj died on 17 January 2022 at the age of 83 at his residence in Delhi after suffering a heart attack. Before his death, he also suffered from a kidney ailment and had to undergo dialysis one month before his death due to high diabetes.
