Our Lady Of Mercy School – Description
Our Lady Of Mercy School is a public girls’ day school, located in Mukuru Nyayo location, Nairobi County. For further information please see the school’s contacts below. It started in 1962 as a single stream Day school with funding from Sister of Mercy and the Kenyan government. Initially, it occupied buildings of the older primary school section of Our Lady Primary School, with both sections under one head-teacher.
In 1965 the first candidates sat for the Cambridge Certificate of Education. In 1966 the school become a girl’s only school, therefore, a separate entity from the primary school with its own head-teacher.
The school becomes a government maintained secondary school ion 1974 giving grants-in-aid for recurrent expenses as well as paying Teachers’ Salaries. The government gave grants for the construction of a science laboratory while a German funding agency gave funds for the home-science unit.
Parent-Teacher Association was set up in 1980.
In 1987 8th July His excellence Daniel Arap Moi presided a fund-raising Harambee held in the primary school grounds. In the month of September, the construction of the first phase of the current school began with the help of the funds.
The school becomes a double stream. In 1989 13th April the school was moved to its current site from the facilities. It occupied for 27 years in the same building as Our Lady of Mercy Primary School. The school’s perimeter wall was then constructed.
The school becomes a triple stream secondary school in 2008 with the help of The ministry of education’s Constituency Development Fund and Parents. Further three classrooms were built with the help of the parents.
In 2015 the school become a full boarding Girl Schoool with the construction of the dormitory.
Individual candidates can check their KCSE results by SMS or online using an SMS number or website link provided at the release of the exam. Candidates and parents should visit the school for their official results slip. Results for all candidates and the school national, county and local ranking can also be found from the schools’ office.
The ministry of education advises parents teachers and pupils to check the KCSE result slip for any anomaly such as incorrect candidate’s name, school name and code as well as wrong subject grade and report to KNEC within a month after the announcement.
