Oscar Piastri is a racing driver from Australia who is currently the reserve driver for Alpine F1 Team. But recently, the relationship between Oscar and Alpine F1 is controversial because the racer accused Alpine of bizarre actions upon handling his future after Piastri told the team that he was leaving.
Oscar Piastri, McLaren’s latest Australian signing, has spoken out about how unhappy he was to be falsely presented as a driver for Alpine during the legal battles between the two teams.
And the 21-year-old admits it’s “unfortunate” that the driver at McLaren who got replaced is one of his idols, fellow Australian Daniel Ricciardo.
Piastri stated that he was in the simulator when Sfaznauer informed him that he will be named an Alpine driver beginning with the 2023 season.
Alpine even declared him as Alonso’s replacement in early August, only for Piastri to deny any arrangement with a now-famous social media tweet. Piastri alleges he informed Alpine twice that he would not be racing for them in 2023 before their announcement.
