They are known as the staple team in college football regarding the contrast and modifications on football clothes. The team is often referred to as the “Uniform University”.

What the Ducks wear during the game is a concern widely among college football lovers around the country. Every start of the NCAA season buzzes the internet with Oregon’s field outfit combinations and variations.

Oregon Ducks Uniforms Today

Oregon Ducks Uniforms 2023 will incorporate Yellow, Green, White, and Black colors this season. The exact designs are yet to be released.

Popularly known for never wearing the same uniform twice, fans can expect a wide variety of designs this year as well. The streets of Eugene have always seen Ducks Jersey moving throughout the city.

The Vice President, Creative Director, of NIKE special projects, Todd Vann Horne once said in 2018, “They are bold pioneers breaking standard conventions. Color, graphics, and stories are all in play within their uniforms. Innovation has no limits for the Ducks.”

This indicates the craziness of the Ducks regarding their uniform on the field. Not only the team but every college football player or student, child, teenager, and professional proudly put on their home team’s outfit walking down the streets.

It is not just clothes, it has become a tradition. They not only wear it but also hang it on the wall as a souvenir. The locals like to archive their team’s outfits and some even date back to years ago.

The process if how the team comes up with new designs each week is simple as explained by Oregon’s quarterback Bo Nix.

According to Nix, they have an incredible EQ personnel named Kenny Farr who selects some people to collab with the team’s desire on uniforms before the season. And then every team member put forward their ideas.

The suggestions are sent off and after some time the team receives the combined design samples. They finalize and pass it. After that, they announce to the fans every week of the college football season what they will be wearing in the next game.

The teammates get a chance to model the outfits which is an honor and something to celebrate. The selection is made either by head coach or someone in the department.

Uniforms History

Oregon Ducks Football Uniforms History indicates 9 outfit combinations in 2005 and 384 in 2006. They wore white helmets in 2007.

They donned traditional wear-yellow helmets and pants with green jerseys for several decades of the 20th century.

The then-new helmets had the ‘UO’ emblem interlocked originally. Their green home jersey had golden letters and their white erode jersey got green letters. The shoulder loops were made in UCLA style.

Let’s mark the year of major changes in the uniform history of the Ducks:

Before 2000

  • 1967-1971 (Jerry Frei Era): The helmets got a solid green color touch and subtle variation was brought into the logo. The jersey and the pants did not receive significant changes.
  • 1972 – 1976 (Dick Enright): Enright brought back the traditional yellow helmet which consisted of green and white stripes same as the Green Bay Packers style.
  • 1977 (Rich Brooks): Brooks patched up the helmet with the ‘UO’ emblem interlocking which had a green block style.
  • 1985 (Mike Bellotti): The jersey sleeves were added with the Donald Duck logo. The stripes were removed from pants, helmets, and jerseys. A green variation of pants was included.

The 21st Century Era

The year 1999 saw significant and radical changes in the uniform designs of the Oregon Ducks. NIKE acquired the outfitting rights to Oregon in 1995 and brought robust changes in the ’99 season.

The year marked the beginning of unusually non-uniform standards for the college football team. The player played that season on newly designed NIKE gear having solid green helmets with redesigned ‘O” logo and jerseys containing lightning yellow letters.

Since that year, the Oregon squad fully revise their football uniforms once every three seasons while the combination changes every week.

The 2005 season saw nine different outfit combinations in the team. It rose during 2006 new uniform designs which offered the possibility for 384 combination designs of jerseys, shocks, helmets, shoes, pants, and more.

In the 2006 Bowl Games in Las Vegas, they introduced a metallic yellow-colored helmet with silver flames which offered 512 different combinations of uniforms.

The uniform then designed was considered technologically advanced among others. They were 28% and 34% lighter when dry and wet respectively. The joints had reinforcing diamond plating patterns and greater durability.

Oregon Ducks while playing against the Huskies on October 20, 2007, wore a white helmet for the first time. The game against Arizona in 2008 gave them an all-new black outfit titled “lights out”. The major change included the color, and the wing pattern instead of shoulder pads (metal diamond plated).

  • 2009: Neo-throwback jerseys with gold letters were introduced, the yellow helmet got a modern logo redesigned instead of the ‘UO’ symbol, and the colors included black, green, white, yellow, grey, gold, and steel. The design continued till the 2011 regular season.
  • 2012: The 2012 Rose Bowl season gave a massive revision to Ducks’ uniform and was taken ahead in the regular season as well. The wings on the shoulder pads moved to helmets as chrome decals and consisted of a “feather” detail, a much broader and highlighted iridescent fabric.
  • 2013: In the game against Washington State on October 19, the team decided to go with Breast Cancer Awareness-themed uniforms. The specially designed outfits had a motive to raise funds for Kay Yow Cancer Funds. It consisted of bold pink helmets, pink Nike Vapor Carbon Elite socks, pink Nike Vapor Talon Elite cleats, and pink Vapor Jet gloves combined with a black Nike Pro Combat uniform system.

The football gear of the Ducks has gone through several changes throughout the year. In the last season i.e. the 2022 season, the first-week game, the honorary outfit with a black uniform with hot pink and highlighter yellow to mark the awareness of breast cancer was seen.

The second week received a major change in the helmets which had black face masks. Week 3 went with a nightmare green combination and the sight was soothed by the yellow accessories in week 4.

The sixth week brought back white pants and helmets to go with a green jersey. Week 7 had the eggshell combination. In other weeks the team incorporated white, black, and green combinations.

National Championship Uniforms

Oregon Ducks National Championship Uniform includes an all-white uniform with grey accents and white and steel variations.

The Ducks have made only two national championship appearances in 2010 and 2014 to date but have never won any.

Let’s discuss those uniforms in brief below:

Yellow Socks and Cleats and Uniform with Grey Accent – 2010

The uniform consisted of “Volt” yellow-colored socks and cleats to go with the grey-volt yellow mixed boots and grey helmet with a modern ‘O’ emblem at the front and the sides.

The white jersey had padded wings on the shoulder painted grey and that went well with the white pants. The design was for sure set to enamor the opposing players.

The gloves as well interesting to look at which the NIKE engineered in such a way that it could be made “O” with the player’s hand. It was colored grey and had black patterns on both palm sides and was dotted with white.

White and Steel Variation to Rose Bowl – 2014-15

At the College Football National Championship Game that season, the Ducks decided not to go with their school colors for the second time.

They rather chose white despite being the home team. Most parts of the gear looked like a hybrid from the ‘Stormtrooper’ appearance in 2012 and 2010 Civil War uniforms.

The helmet was white in color that came with black stripe patches on the sides and an “O” emblem on the top. Jersey was white with a black crossed ‘O” at the center bordered with grey.

This time the wings on the shoulder were pulled from the neck. The hybrid went well with grey pants and white-grey combined boots with grey socks in it.
