On October 31, 1943, Oommen Chandy, an Indian politician and statesman, was born. Chandy began his political career as a member of Kerala’s largest student group, the Kerala Students Union (KSU), the student wing of the Indian National Congress party.
Before becoming State President, he presided over the KSU unit at St. George High School in Puthupally.
Chandy graduated from CMS College in Kottayam and St. Berchmans College in Changanassery after finishing his pre-university education there.
At the Government Law College in Ernakulam, he later earned his LL.B in law. He was 79 years old when he passed away on July 18, 2023, after a protracted illness.

Oommen Chandy, a late Indian politician and statesman, was married to Mariamma Ummen. Chandy, her husband, served as Kerala’s 10th Chief Minister from 2004 to 2006 and once more from 2011 to 2016.
