Indian politician and statesman Oommen Chandy was born on October 31, 1943. Chandy first got involved in politics as a member of Kerala Students Union (KSU), the largest student organization in Kerala and the student wing of the Indian National Congress party.
Prior to becoming State President, he was the KSU unit president at St. George High School in Puthupally.
Chandy graduated after finishing his pre-university courses at CMS College in Kottayam and earning his B.A. in Economics at St. Berchmans College in Changanassery.
Following that, he earned his LL.B in law from the Government Law College in Ernakulam. He endured a long illness and died on July 18, 2023, at the age of 79.

On July 18, 2023, at 4:25 am, Chandy passed away at a Bengaluru private hospital at the age of 79. Since November of last year, Chandy had been residing in Bengaluru but had not been feeling well. He had throat cancer, which was really sick.
