NYSC: Corp members constitute 62.5 percent teaching staff in Anambra schools

Mrs Blessed Ekene Iruma, the NYSC State Coordinator in Anambra, has stated that among all teachers in schools in the state, NYSC members make up 62.5%.

Mrs Iruma made this statement on Friday during the 2022 Corps Employers Workshop at the Prof. Kenneth Dike Digital Library in Awka. She also urged businesses in the state to continue putting their corps members’ well-being first by ensuring their safety and comfort in the workplace.

She explained that the purpose of the workshop with the theme “Achieving Improved Productivity of Corps Members through Enhanced Welfare and Security during the Service Year” was to critically and deeply brainstorm on the theme and arrive at practical and vital decisions that would enhance and improve the existing good partnership between the NYSC, the people of Anambra, and the Corps Employers, which has resulted in a favourable situation for the corps members serving in the state.

“Corps Employers are critical stakeholders of NYSC; the scheme has high confidence in you as employers of corps members. It’s not in doubt that the corps members in your employment have done and are still doing their best to contribute to the growth and success of your organisation and the Nation at large. It may interest you to put the records down that corps members constitute 62.5 per cent of teaching staff in schools in Anambra State.

“This is my first Corps Employers workshop since I assumed duty here in Anambra a few months ago, hence the desire to put heads together on the need for proper care to the corps members to stimulate proactiveness, responsibility, dedication, and for feedback towards appropriate utilisation of the serving corps members in the state. ”

The coordinator commended the state government for continuing support of the scheme in the state and urged employers to pay corps members a reasonable allowance of ten thousand naira (N10,000) or more, provide housing, show love, and secure them, as well as hire from among them diligent, disciplined, and value-adding corps members who excelled in their duties at the end of the service year.

Dr Mrs Ofor, an accountant at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University in Igbariam, Anambra State, and the workshop’s resource person, asked the Employers to make health insurance for the Corps Members a top priority in their workplaces and to always give them a certificate of recognition.
