A fatal incident occurred inside of Nutty Putty Cave back on November 24, 2009.
The incident closed the cave for the public permanently, sealing off the entrance. In fact, the body of John, who died in the fatal incident is still inside the cave.
John was exploring the cave with his brother when he mistook a similar narrow tunnel for the passageway, he was hooked upside down in the cave.
As the rescuers tried to rescue John from the cave using a complex rope-pulley system, a pulley failed in mid extradition and he suffered a cardiac arrest due to the immense stress on his upper body. He died on the spot.
John’s family and the owner of the cave reached an agreement of leaving his body inside the cave as it was deemed too risky to recover his body. The entrance to the cave was sealed off with concrete with John’s dead body still inside.
