Meghan Trainor was born on December 22, 1993, in the town of Nantucket, Massachusetts. Growing up with an artistic family, she began to compose songs at the age of 11. She attended Nauset High School on Cape Cod with her two brothers before she moved to Hyannis, where she sang and played the trumpet in a jazz band. She also learned to play music with Johnny Spampinato, a notable guitarist with the NRBQ and the Incredible Casuals.
In 2009 and 2010, Trainor also participated in a special five-week course at the Berklee College of Music Production Program. She received high scores and reached the songwriting final of their award.
