Nikola Tesla net worth: Nikola Tesla was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, physicist, and futurist who had a net worth of $1000. Nikola Tesla was born in Smiljan, Austrian Empire (Croatia) in July 1856 and passed away in January 1943. He was best known for contributing to the design of the modern alternating current electric supply system, or AC. He moved to the United States in 1884 to work for Thomas Edison in New York City, NY. Tesla set out on his own with financial backers and set up laboratories to develop electrical devices. His AC induction motor was patented and licensed by George Westinghouse. Tesla was associated with the “War of Currents” between alternating and direct currents and many patent battles as well. He worked on wireless technology through his unfinished Wardenclyffe Tower project. Tesla conducted experiments that involved electrical discharge tubes, early X-ray imaging, and mechanical oscillators and generators. He built one of the first ever wirelessly controlled boats. He came to become known as a “mad scientist” and made a lot of money off of patents which he put back into various projects. After he passed away, Tesla’s work fell into obscurity but came back into prominence in the 1990s. Nikola Tesla passed away on January 7, 1943 at 86 years old.
