Nigerian Senate slashes JAMB Registration Fee, Extends Examination Validity To Three Years

The Nigerian Senate has on Wednesday slashed the registration fee for the Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME) from N5,650 to N2,500 during plenary.

This was agreed upon following the adoption of the Senate report by the Senate committee on tertiary institutions and TETfund on the inquiry into the new admission policy of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB).

The aforementioned committee also resolved that the validity period of the UTME should last up to three years to reduce financial burden on parents/guardians of the students.

The Nigerian Senate also adopted the recommendation of the committee chaired by Senate Binta Masi Garba (APC, Adamawa North) that change of institution of choice, course form and other related examination activities should be made free.

Senate however rejected the move to cut the examination costs of both the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) by 70%.
