When Chee Gaik Yap wanted to go jogging alone, she was concerned for her younger sister’s safety. So she went for a jog with her sister around the neighborhood, only to be kidnapped, raped, and murdered nine hours later.
Chee Ah Sau, a carpenter with six children, was most proud of his third kid, Chee Gaik Yap. She was the brightest student in the family, having been the only one to attend university, graduate, and earn a position as a marketing executive with manufacturing.
Gaik Yap chose to follow her younger sister Gaik Choon to the track at the Cinta Sayang Club in Taman Ria Jaya because she was worried about her safety. Gaik Choon had intended to go jogging at a park near their residence in Sungai Petani, Kedah that day.
They started their run around 6 p.m. Gaik Yap, a martial arts expert, sprinted faster than Gaik Choon and was well ahead of her sister until the younger sibling lost sight of her.
Chee Gaik Yap Murder Case Update

After hearing the court’s judgment, Chee Gaik Yap’s father decided he no longer wanted to live. Allow him to fall and perish from the courthouse, obliterating the anguish in his heart after his daughter abandoned him with no justification. He cried nonstop, and the reporters present blocked him and calmed him down.
Gaik Yap’s body was discovered dead and passive outside the Love Love Club. The victim’s body was so horribly abused as the victim was raped, sodomized, and had her throat stabbed.
Shahril Bin Dato Jaafar, the accused in this case, was not called to give testimony until 2009, when the auto dealer was arrested. After three years, Naza’s automobile was eventually effectively hidden.
What Happened To Chee Gaik Yap?
Police, family members, and friends formed a big search party at the running track until they received the devastating news hours after midnight. Gaik Yap’s body was discovered at a golf course, not far from where she went jogging. She was raped and sodomized before her assailant sliced her throat and dumped her semi-naked in the deep underbrush.
The investigation took an excellent turn three years later, in 2009, when a car salesman was detained in connection with the case. Sharil Jaafar, the suspect, is the son of a Datuk-titled jewelry magnate.
Sharil was bailed out by his family just days before his DNA test results were due, and he escaped to Australia. His DNA was determined to match the traces found on the victim after he skipped bail. Sharil was placed on a wanted list because he lived near the crime scene.
Chee Gaik Yap Family Explored
Chee Gaik Yap’s father works as a carpenter and is the father of six children. She is his only university-educated daughter as she was intended to take a course in Germany.
Chee decided to return home on Jan 17, 2012, just three days after Gaik Yap’s sixth death anniversary. Upon landing at the KL International Airport, he was detained. The victim’s family persisted in their pursuit of justice, launching a campaign to have the case reheard in court.
He was charged with her murder two weeks later, but the Alor Star High Court acquitted him the following year because the prosecution had failed to establish the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
