In the penultimate round of the British Superstock 1000 Championships at Donington Park, New Zealand’s Damon Rees found himself amid intense racing action.
Despite the challenging weather forecast of torrential rain and high winds, Rees showcased his skills during the practice sessions. In the first practice, he was impressed with a lap time of 1.33.170, securing the 12th position.
However, the second practice occurred under wet and windy conditions, where Rees finished 26th.
Due to worsening weather conditions, the qualifying session was canceled, and race one was postponed to Sunday. Rees started the race from the 12th position but encountered a setback on the first lap, dropping to 27th place.
Nevertheless, he made a remarkable recovery and steadily climbed up the ranks to finish in 19th place.
The second race, held later on a dry track, presented a new opportunity. Rees began from the 22nd position, but his aspirations were cut short.
While pushing to improve his position, he crashed at the Melbourne Loop on the opening lap, prematurely ending his race.
Despite the disappointment, Rees maintained his determination, expressing his desire to return to the grid at Brands Hatch.
Rees apologized to his Carl Cox Motorsport-supported Astro JJR Racing team and sponsors for the incident, vowing not to give up. The crash injured his Right AC joint, adding to the previous injury on his left side.
